The arts are essential to educating the whole child
physically, cognitively, emotionally, and spiritually.
Parents expect their children to learn basic math and science skills even though they may never become Geico actuaries or NASA scientists. Kids have to learn about algebra and physics so they can think and function in the real world even if they never do have a career in one of these fields.
So parents needn't neglect their children's music learning just because their kids may not be destined for the music industry. Basic music skills in singing, reading, and moving all contribute to the academic, emotional, and social spheres in a child's world.
